VBS and Bible Reading

June 6, 2011

John Allan

Please do not forget that VBS begins Sunday June 12 and continues through June 15th. Our theme is “Believe it or Not, It’s in the Bible” and we have classes for all ages. There is no pre-registration, you can register in person when you arrive at the building.

Vacation Bible School will be at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday (our morning worship service will occur as usual at 10 a.m.). VBS will continue at 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday. Even if you are only able to attend one session, please accept our invitation to be our guest during this event. A welcome is waiting for you!

Whether we want to think about it or not, the month of June is here. That means nearly half of the year 2011 is already gone.

You might have had goals at the beginning of the year that have fallen by the wayside. Perhaps you had plans for the year that you still have not started but have every intention of still achieving. Maybe there are even a few that you would like to complete but have concerns that it is too late to get it done this year.

If one of your goals for this year was to read the Bible in its entirety it is not too late to make good on that goal. Even if you have not yet started on a daily schedule it can still be completed. Did you know that on many days of a typical “Read the Bible in a year” schedules the average daily reading is usually not more than 3-4 chapters? For some people that is a lot to fit into their schedules, but many folks could easily read that many and could also manage more.

If you had the ambition to be a better Bible reader this year, please do not let the fact that it is already June stand in your way. Aim to make it through as much of the Bible as you can this year. If you set your mind to it you can probably make it through all of it. Even if that does not happen, you could stay on pace to finish by next June.

It is never a bad time to start reading the Bible more regularly. Whatever time of year or day of the week, we encourage you to start reading today. It is a decision that will reward you many times over if you begin and stick with it.
